I am a Senior Research Fellow in the Composites Research Group at the University of Nottingham. The fellowship has allowed continued maintenance and development of TexGen software for 3D modelling of textiles. The challenges of modelling the increasingly complex textile structures used in composite materials have been explored, including development of software tools for optimisation of the weave patterns used to form preform structures such as I- and T-beams, common elements used in engineering design. New textile applications are being investigated along with requirements for new modelling and simulation capability within TexGen. During the fellowship I have been able to input into the launch of the new RSE group at the University of Nottingham and have created a Research Software Network to build a community of researchers who develop software as part of their research. I chaired the 3rd Conference of Research Software Engineers in Birmingham in 2018.
