Code of Conduct
In joining the Society of Research Software Engineering or taking part in its activities, events or online platforms, you undertake to observe the Code of Conduct during all such activities and interactions.

Membership Terms and Conditions
Membership of the Society is open to anyone, from anywhere in the world, who supports the Society’s aims of furthering research software engineering. There are no requirements to hold particular qualifications or be employed in a particular field.
Annual membership subscriptions
- A non-member applying for membership is required to remit the first annual subscription.
- The subscription payment will be refunded if an application for membership is turned down
- For continuous membership, further payments will be due annually and if the recurring payment is cancelled, membership will lapse on the anniversary of the last payment.
- A former member whose membership lapsed due to cancelled subscription may re-join at any time, at which point they are required to make an annual subscription payment.
Termination of Membership
Membership of the Society comes to an end if:
- the member dies, or, in the case of an organisation (or the representative of an organisation) that organisation ceases to exist; or
- the member sends a notice of resignation to the Society trustees; or
- any sum of money owed by the member to the Society is not paid in full within three months of it falling due; or
- the Society trustees decide that it is in the best interests of the Society that the member in question should be removed from membership, and pass a resolution to that effect; or
- the Society trustees decide that the member fails to follow practices described in the membership Code of Conduct document, and pass a resolution to that effect.
Before the Society trustees take any decision to remove someone from membership of the Society they must:
- inform the member by email or in writing of the reasons why it is proposed to remove him, her or it from membership;
- give the member at least 21 clear days’ notice in which to make representations to the Society trustees as to why they should not be removed from membership;
- at a duly constituted meeting of the Society trustees, consider whether or not the member should be removed from membership;
- consider at that meeting any representations which the member makes as to why the member should not be removed; and
- allow the member, or the member’s representative, to make those representations in person at that meeting, if the member so chooses.
