Iain is Head of Research Software Engineering in the College of Medical, Veterinary & Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow.  He leads the central RSE team in the College’s Shared Research Facilities.

Iain has a background as a mathematical biologist and computational epidemiologist before moving to become explicitly a research software engineer in 2017.  He was previously at Queen Mary University of London, leading an RSE team there, and before that at the Health Protection Agency and Public Health England.  He has been a fellow of the Software Sustainability Institute since 2021 and is a certified Carpentries Instructor.
