Becoming a member of the Society supports our work in the research software engineering community. Membership is open to all, not just those with research software engineer in their job title. We ask for only £20 per year to become a full member but access to the website, Slack and mailing list is and will remain free. For more information about the society, see our About page.

What else do I need to know?
How do I get access to the Slack workspace?
The Society has an active Slack workspace for members and non-members – you can request access to the Slack via this Google form or join directly using a pre-approved institutional email (we’ve reached slacks capacity for pre-approved email domains so can’t add any more).
Can I claim Income Tax relief from my membership costs?
We’re now on HMRC’s approved list, so you can claim Income Tax relief as an employment expense if you pay for your membership yourself. We come up under Society of Research Software Engineering.
How do I cancel my membership?
If you would like to cancel your membership, please log in to your Profile and stop your recurring payment if you pay by Credit/Debit Card. If you pay by Direct Debit, cancel it with your bank. You can ignore any renewal reminders and your membership will lapse shortly after the renewal date.
If you would prefer to cancel immediately, losing all member benefits before your renewal date, please email our membership team at [email protected].
How to I change my membership details?
In order to manage your membership details, such as contact details and member email preferences, please log in to your Profile.
When does my fee renew?
The fee covers membership for a full calendar year from the date of payment. If you pay by Credit/Debit Card, a recurring annual payment will be set up that can be cancelled at any time and membership will lapse shortly after the renewal date.

How do I access offers from commercial sponsors?
The Society periodically sends out emails to members with offers from our commercial sponsors. If you would like to receive these emails, please log in to your Profile, click “Edit profile” and scroll down to “What members emails would you like to recieve?” to tick “Offers and information from commercial partners”.
