RSECon26 In-Person Registration Extended to 7 August

Secure your spot for the 10th annual conference for Research Software Engineering taking place in Sheffield from 9 to 11 September 2026. In-person registration has been extended to 7 August 2026 so make sure to book your ticket before time runs out. Prepare for RSECon26 Lightning Talks

We are introducing a new dedicated lightning talks session on Thursday 10 September. These 3-minute talks are not a replacement for a full talk but they are enough time to get your project in front of the audience. It is an opportunity to get feedback, raise the visibility of a project or find new collaborators. Whether you want to present brand-new results, gauge interest in a new SIG or simply share a topic, this session is for you! The sign-up form will go live on 26 August 2026 and close on day 1 of the conference.

Expression of Interest – RSECon26 BoF

What next for the RSE movement in the UK?
RSECon26 Birds of a Feather (BoF) Session, Friday 11 September, 13.30 – 15.30
Since being coined in 2012, RSE and the RSE movement has succeeded in many ways. But challenges remain. Conversations about these challenges are happening in pockets of the community, but often only among senior leadership or within separate siloes. This session enables anyone in the RSE community to participate in them in a collaborative and open way. What better time than the 10th anniversary of RSECon to identify the issues that matter and consider what might be next for the RSE movement?
We are looking for people to contribute to this Birds of a Feather (BoF) session as either a lightning talk presenter or facilitator. Please submit your EoI by 09.00 UK time on Monday 10 August.

Workshop on software strategies for sustainable physical modelling

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is hosting a Workshop on Software Strategies for Sustainable Physical Modelling in Reading, UK, and online, on 23–27 November 2026. As physical modelling faces upheaval in HPC hardware, programming languages, and the rise of machine learning, the workshop asks how large-scale physics-based codes can stay sustainable over the coming decade. Topics include: code sharing and co-development, testing methodologies, modularisation, open-source, portable deployment, hybrid physics–ML systems, agentic coding and AI-assisted development, and modern developer workflows. Five keynotes are confirmed, and we welcome contributed talks and posters from beyond weather and climate. The format is hybrid, with no registration fees. Abstracts are open until 4 September 2026; registration closes 25 September 2026. We particularly welcome contributions from groups currently under-represented in scientific computing.

Call for Abstracts: RSE-HPC-2026 Workshop at SC26

We are excited to announce the Research Software Engineers in HPC (RSE-HPC-2026) workshop, to be held as part of SC26, in Chicago, IL, USA and online, on Monday, November 16, 2026.
We encourage prospective participants to submit abstracts of proposed lightning talks on topics related to RSE issues. The authors of accepted abstracts will be invited to present lightning talks or participate in panel discussions at the workshop. We particularly encourage submissions from first-time conference presenters, and from members of groups that have historically been underrepresented in the HPC community. The deadline for submissions is Friday, August 7, 2026, at 11:59 PM AoE (UTC-12).
